St Michaels Tower Montacute

The folly is on the hill top behind Montacute House and the village of Monacute in Somerset.

The Tower is known as St Michael's tower, the tower is made from local Ham Stone (Guess from Ham Hill). The top of the tower is reached by a steep spiral stone stair case.

The tower is about 15 M high and 5 M in diameter,
You can easily get to the tower if visiting Monacute house, albeit a steep climb in a few places. There excellent views from the top of the hill which once formed a hill top fort. During the last year trees have been removed to preserve this historic site.

If you have more time you could walk over to the top of Ham Hill and may stop for a pub lunch in the Prince of Wales.
These pictures were taken in March 2011,
